Why is it so hard to study with your phone nearby?

Studying is slow and effortful, and a feed is one tap away. Each time you check, it is easy to stay longer than you meant, and the decision to stop has to be made again and again while you are tired of the work in front of you. Deciding once, before the session starts, removes most of those decisions.

How do you set up AppBlocker for study sessions?

  1. Download AppBlocker from the App Store. There is no sign-up.
  2. Pick the apps that distract you most with Apple's app picker.
  3. Set a Scheduled Block for the hours you usually study, or use Block Now for a single session, from 5 minutes to 1 hour.
  4. When you reach for one of those apps during a session, you get a block screen instead of the feed.

Which apps should you block?

Block the ones you open without deciding to, usually social and video apps. Leave the apps you need for school unblocked, such as notes, calendar or the apps your classes use. If you are not sure which apps take your time, check Settings, Screen Time, See All App & Website Activity.

How do you get through exam season?

Use the Manual Block. It keeps the apps you choose shut until you deliberately turn it off, so the week before an exam you are not relying on willpower every evening. Doomscroll Protection helps with the quick check that turns into an hour: pick the apps that are time sinks, and AppBlocker stops you after 15 minutes of use.

What helps alongside AppBlocker?

Is AppBlocker a parental control app?

No. AppBlocker is for your own self-control on your own iPhone. It is not built for a parent or school to manage someone else's device. Apple's Screen Time with Family Sharing is the built-in option for that.

Where AppBlocker is the wrong tool: it is for iPhone, it does not block apps on a laptop or other devices, and it is not a parental-controls app for managing someone else's phone. Because it relies on Apple's Screen Time and Family Controls systems, blocking cannot be guaranteed in every circumstance.
